About Us

One person can make a difference.

the data is public

Almost all of the data on this website comes from sources such as Wikipedia, various websites of the World Wildlife Fund, and other publically-available data. All of the forecasts are, of course, projections and liable to error. (Let's hope all of them are false, and the future holds plenty of gorillas and rhinos!)

my name is Michael Werneburg

I am a Canadian living in Tokyo, where I work in information technology. One of my hobbies is recreational fishing; both marine and freshwater fishing exposes you pretty quickly to the facts of the holocene extinction currently underway. To drive this home to people who might not have such exposure, I made the initial version of this website one weekend in January, 2026. I run it on low-draw hardware sitting in our bedroom that I built from low-cost parts (and Lego). I have supported charities such as the World Wildlife Fun, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, and Ducks Unlimited.

One intended audience of this website is the generation of my children, born in 2008 and 2012. The way things are currently going, they will witness the extinction of various rhino, elephant, and giraffe species. The younger one could see the extinction of arabica coffee!

Every extinction represents an irreversible loss, but the future isn't written yet. Find your way of making a difference!.
